As soon as we walked in I knew it was going to be a great experience. The atmosphere was great, the staff was friendly, and when we got our food, it was the best thing about this place. I ordered the house salad and orange chicken, being thoroughly impressed with both. The house salad was a great blend of tastes and vegetables, the orange chicken being a tangy, sweet, slightly crispy dish sent from heaven. The staff was always friendly and patient, being able to feed our party of around 15 people. If I'm in the area, I'm definitely coming here again.
Everything we ate was spectacular. The food came out fast, the staffs hospitality was very helpful and friendly. All of the ingredients tasted fresh and expertly cooked. The perfect place for some GOOD Thai.
Good curry, especially the massaman curry. Really good flavor and spicy level 1 is already spicy enough. Good portion sizes, good customer service, fair pricing. Would recommend.
I usually have this delivered through DoorDash (twice this week) and I've never been disappointed! I love their crab rangoons, sesame chicken, and birthday sushi roll!
Tried Cool Basil on a whim for my daughters 17th birthday lunch. Wow were we impressed! The service was too notch, we loved our server. The food portions were really good and the lunch prices even better. I was very surprised our sushi roll was made fresh and also cheaper than other places we've been to. Loved it. Oh and the strawberry bubble tea was quite a treat.
Best sushi and curry I've ever had! We have tried literally a dozen sushi places in and around Des Moines, this is the only one we will go to from here on out. Their rolls are fresh and their yellow curry is perfect.
Was looking through my Yelp reviews and realized I last reviewed Cool Basil almost two years ago. My wife and I eat lunch there almost every Thursday. We've even gotten to know one of the servers Sau (sp) and have traded gifts with her. The food is always superb, and the staff is very friendly. Although my wife always orders a salad, I rotate through the angry dishes, curries, tempura, and basil stir fries. In our dozens (and dozens) of visits to Cool Basil we have never had a bad meal or poor service. I believe this may be the best Thai restaurant in Des Moines.
This place has amazing variety and good food at reasonable prices. The service is fine and helpful but seems less than engaged. The ambiance is fun but nothing amazing.
I've seen them show up on Grubhub for awhile but finally tried today. Yum!! We did the app combo where everything was delicious. Not just good but delicious. We did one of the curries with crispy chicken. Yum!! We also got the side of cucumber salad. Only complaint was it was silly small for $3 otherwise amazing. Very sad it was not a decent size. Some of our order did not make it but got refunded immediately. I can not wait to try more of the menu. I'm sure it is all on par. Excuse me while I go back for seconds.. BTW, portions are huge. Definitely leftovers to enjoy another meal.
Love the pad thai here. Favorite in town. My only gripe is the chicken they use. It always has a slight off-taste. Ive never gotten sick so its not like its spoiled but it just doesnt taste right. Anymore i just order the pad thai with no meat.
